It has to be said that the Copperfox Trifle is my least favourite model of all time. To me it’s too chunky and out of scale for any sort of Exmoor pony. Any sort of customising has to be an improvement.
I decided to take mine from being a larger than 1/9th scale pony to being a small 1/10th scale Belgian Brabant drafter.
The build was basically there, I had to sculpt on top all the muscle and rework the legs.
That dumpy head came off and was lengthened and completely resculpted to more realistic and horse type proportions. The head also came off and a whole new neck was sculpted on. Exit the tail for a jaunty docked style and then a new mane do as well.
I painted her to look like the horse in one of my old favourite reference books, a hair by hair strawberry roan with faded out lower legs and blonde m/t. All work done in mixed media of acrylics, pastels and a whole lot of pencil work. She was finished off with sculpted shoes and that was that.
From pony to draft horse.
